"Second-hand heroes"

A study of popular music shows that styles undergo a radical change about every four or five years, the time for a given group of teen-agers to attain majority. The old generation does not change its tastes. Those remain constant. Twenty years from now middle-aged Beatles´ fans will still be listening to reissues of Beatles´ records, as those who dated to the music of Glen Miller subscribe to new editions of Miller records or the Time-Life nostalgia swing series. What changes are the tastes of the upcoming generation, who want nothing to do with second-hand heroes and desire to create new ones.
